Week 2 Recaps
Profiteer$ top Hellions

P.W.O.P. finally scores a win against Irwin, sending the champs to their second straight defeat, and the Bock Boys hold off the Stereco. All this and more in...

The Week That Was in Fantasy League Football

Irwin Hellions 31
P.W.O.P. 38

They're partying in the streets of Oil Town, USA, this week after Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$ scored only the franchise's second win in twelve games against the defending champion Irwin Hellions.

Having lost seven straight in the series leading up to the game, the Profiteer$ left it all on the field. Irwin didn't go quietly, however. Brett Favre clipped his P.W.O.P. counterpart Steve McNair 8-7, and Edgerrin James - the lone Hellion in the backfield - bested the combined efforts of Ahman Green and Travis Henry 11-7. Yet P.W.O.P. torched the Hellions through the air, as Randy Moss (9), James Thrash (8), and Hines Ward (9) each had huge games. Irwin's Jimmy Smith had 7 on his own, but the other three Hellion wide outs combined for only 8. The Profiteer$ also won the kicking game before losing a brutal defensive struggle, when Irwin's Bucs unit powered past their Saints team 23-16. Yet the receiving numbers put up by the Green and Black were just too much for the Hellions to keep up with.

The win is the first for P.W.O.P. on the year and improves their record to 1-0-1 while the loss drops the Hellions to a surprising 0-2. In what was billed as a statement game for the Profiteer$, P.W.O.P. sent notice to the rest of the West that they fully intend to be part of the division race in 2002.

Sims Stereco 28
Thomas' Bock Boys 36

In the most dramatic game of the week, Thomas' Bock Boys withstood a Monday night rally from the Sims Stereco to claim their second win of the season, 36-28.

Sims trailed by six points going into Monday with Antonio Freeman, Stephen Davis, and David Akers looking to outscore Thomas' Philly defense, but it was not to be. Despite 14 points from Akers, the Eagles took 22 big points off the Stereco's score to secure the win. Building up to Monday's finish, Bock Boy Daunte Culpepper posted a solid 13-point outing, picking up Priest Holmes and his mortal 6-point game. The Stereco's Michael Vick scored 7 in his FLF debut, but he gave way for Ricky Williams, who continues his emergence with a 13-point game of his own. The one major shortfall of the Stereco's play was on defense, where their Ravens team managed to only take 3 points away from Thomas. The Bock Boys, who are now 3-0 against Sims, start a season 2-0 for the first time in franchise history. On the other side of that, Sims starts a season 0-2 for the second straight year.

The Pimps 40
Anderson Brewmeisters 30

The Pimps downed Anderson 40-30 at Saint Arnold Stadium Sunday in the week's only battle of undefeated teams. The Brewmeisters, perhaps still riding the high of last week's win over Sims, got left behind by The Pimps, who graciously reminded Anderson of which team had won two of the last three Eastern Division titles and why.

The Pimps scored an early offensive advantage as QB Mark Brunell outperformed a mistake-prone Peyton Manning 13-3. Anderson countered with a win on the ground as LaDainian Tomlinson and Fred Taylor combined for a 13-6 victory over Jerome Bettis and Shaun Alexander, but The Pimps' receivers were peerless on this day. Peerless Price, that is, who led all scorers with 15 huge points, tilting the offensive advantage to The Pimps. The visitors also scored a defensive win as their Packers topped Anderson's Titans 7-3, wrapping up their second consecutive win to start the season. The Brewmeisters drop to 1-1 after suffering their third straight defeat at the hands of The Pimps.

Naughty Figs 41
Abstract Machines 32

The Naughty Figs - an early season favorite to land back in the Draft Bowl - shocked the Abstract Machines as home 41-32. Rich Gannon (7 points) and Lamar Smith (13) paced the Figs' offense, but it wasn't enough to keep up with the Machines' high-octane assault. Marshall Faulk returned to double-digits with a 10-point game, and he was joined by Marvin Harrison and kicker Morton Andersen who each matched his 10. Corey Dillon posted an impressive 8 points of his own, but the game was lost from the Machines on defense. The Figs' first-round-selected Bears dominated the M's Rams squad 19-5, stealing the game away from the home team. The Figs, having won the last two in this series, improve to 1-1. The Machines lose their first decision of the year and stay winless at 0-1-1.

Piana Raze 6
Jody's C.W.O.T. 28

Jody's Colossal Waste of Time punished the visiting Piana Raze to the tune of 28-6, and Aaron Brooks bested Kurt Warner 7-4 in the battle of Stereco-exes. Anthony Thomas ran for 6 points, and Martin Gramatica booted another 11 for the C.W.O.T.. By contrast, the remaining six Raze offensive starters combined to only match those 17 points. Moreover, the Browns defense, making their C.W.O.T. debut, stripped a staggering 23 points away from the Raze to finish the romp. Jody improves to 2-0 with their second consecutive win at the Vortex, while Piana drops to an unimpressive 0-2 after posting the league's worst performance of the week.
