Week 2 Previews

The Pimps at Anderson Brewmeisters
(1 - 0)   (1 - 0)
series history: Pimps lead 5-4
last meeting: Week 6, 2001
PIMPS 33, at Anderson 31

Week 2 kicks off with the only matchup pitting two unbeaten teams as The Pimps travel to take on the division rival Brewmeisters. Last week, The Pimps took down Irwin 33-26 at home while Anderson shot past the Stereco on the road, 47-31.

The Pimps have won two of the last three Eastern Division titles and seem primed to compete again this year. The Brewmeisters won their only divisional crown in 1998 and haven't really threatened since, but with a chance to go 2-0 for the first time ever, they're going to give the Pimps all they can handle. Furthermore, with Fred Taylor healthy and LaDainian Tomlinson showing no signs of a sophomore slump, Anderson's offense is rearing to go. The Pimps will first have to avoid an emotional letdown from their huge win last week, and then step up their offense a bit themselves if they're to keep the Brew Krew at bay.

Naughty Figs at Abstract Machines
(0 - 1)   (0 - 0 - 1)
series history: tied 1-1
last meeting: Week 6, 2001
Machines 22, at FIGS 23

The Naughty Figs continue their season-opening road trip with a visit to the undefeated yet winless Abstract Machines. While the Figs were being outgunned by the Jody's C.W.O.T., the Machines were doing everything in their power to fend off P.W.O.P., eventually scoring a tie.

Despite losing their fifth straight contest, the Figs showed fight last week against Jody, and Rich Gannon continues to be the offensive cornerstone of an evolving offense. The scenario's slightly different for the Machines, whose quarterback has historically been the missing link among an otherwise potent supporting cast. Yet last week, draftee Drew Brees had a superb debut against the Profiteer$, earning the trust and attention of his Mechanical teammates. It will be old vs. new as Gannon and Brees try to lead their respective team to its first victory of 2002.

Sims Stereco at Thomas' Bock Boys
(0 - 1)   (1 - 0)
series history: Thomas leads 2-0
last meeting: Week 7, 2001
Sims 23, vs THOMAS 28

The 0-1 Sims Stereco take the road to Bockville this week for an interdivisional duel with Thomas' undefeated Bock Boys. Last week, Drew Bledsoe and the Stereco were knocked around by the Brewmeisters while Priest Holmes and the Bock Boys ran all over the Raze.

Earlier this week, the Stereco announced that Michael Vick and Stephen Davis - both conspicuously absent in Week 1 - will see action against the Bock Boys. Their potential boost to the offense will be needed for the Stereco to keep pace with Thomas' offensive assault headed by Daunte Culpepper, Priest Holmes, and David Boston. A Bock Boy win would score the franchise its first ever 2-0 start. Sims, on the other hand, will be looking to avoid its second consecutive 0-2 start to a season. Having never beaten the Bock Boys - nor ever played at Bockyard Stadium - doesn't exactly bode well for the red and gold, however.

Irwin Hellions at P.W.O.P.
(0 - 1)   (0 - 0 - 1)
series history: Irwin leads 10-1
last meeting: Championship Week, 2001
P.W.O.P. 6, at IRWIN 25

Fresh off their primetime defeat by The Pimps, the defending Western Champion Hellions begin their third division title defense against Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$, the team they knocked off in Championship Week to get to Super Bowl V. And one has to think if the Hellions ever needed a tonic for a loss, it's a game with the Profiteer$.

Seven and 91 are the numbers to know for the first Irwin/P.W.O.P. meeting of the season. Seven is the number of consecutive wins Irwin has in this series, and 91 is the overall winning percentage of the Hellions when they play the P.W.O.P.. Staggering? You bet, but the Hellions didn't play well enough to beat anyone last week, and these aren't your father's Profiteer$. They played an impressive game last week in a tie with the Machines, and week-in and week-out, Jeff Garcia and company are looking to prove the doubters wrong. Much more than a mere divisional contest, this is a statement game for the P.W.O.P..

Game of the Week
Piana Raze at Jody's C.W.O.T.
(0 - 1)   (1 - 0)
series history: Jody leads 6-2
last meeting: Week 12, 2001
Piana 28, vs JODY 31

The Piana Raze, perhaps happy to hit the road, travel to the Vortex to meet up with Jody's Colossal Waste of Time in the week's third and final interdivisional game. Last week, Piana lost yet again at home, bested by an energized Bock Boys team while Jody roughed up the Naughty Figs for a Week 1 victory.

Although there hasn't been a meaningful game in this series since Championship Week '98, this particular installment offers an intriguing matchup: a battle of ex-Stereco signal callers. During the offseason, the Raze wooed the Stereco into parting with Kurt Warner in exchange for the first overall draft pick (cashed in for Michael Vick). To most everyone's surprise, Sims then dealt his lone remaining QB - Aaron Brooks - to Jody for Stephen Davis. So now, for the first time ever, Warner and Brooks will be standing on opposite sidelines for a game.

Last week, Brooks posted better numbers than Warner, as did his team over the Raze. Piana is reeling without a formidable running game and will likely go with a run-and-shoot offense to try and keep pace with the C.W.O.T.. Jody, meanwhile, has the luxury package of Eddie George, Anthony Thomas, and Deuce McAllister to pound the Raze and keep pressure off of Brooks. Piana will need Warner and the receivers to find their "A" game if they're to have any hope of pulling the upset.
