Week 12 Previews

The Pimps
at
Naughty Figs
(9 - 2)
(6 - 5)
series history: Figs lead 3-0
last meeting: Week 1
FIGS 12, at Pimps 7

Last week, The Pimps avenged one of their only two losses of the season by downing the Sims Stereco. This week, the 2001 Eastern Division champs look to avenge the other loss, a grueling 12-7 Opening Week defeat at the hands of the Naughty Figs. This game could have been for the Eastern Division championship, but the Naughty Figs couldn't keep up their end of the bargain by losing four of their last five while The Pimps have just kept on rollin', winning seven straight.

Alex Van Pelt was last week's hero for The Pimps, posting a team-high 13 points. If he gets the call again, he'll have to try and outduel one of the hottest quarterbacks around, the Figs' Rich Gannon. Gannon has 12 TDs in his last four games and is just about the lone offensive highlight the Figs have. The Pimps have the obvious advantage on the ground with Jerome Bettis and Shaun Alexander having career years. The Figs might hold the trump card in the Browns defense, which will finally spell the Ravens and matchup with The Pimp's Packers unit. Despite recent struggles, the Figs need only one win over the final two games to clinch a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Sure, The Pimps would like to win for the sake of winning, but they really, really want to beat the Figs this week. Why? They're 0-3 lifetime against the Naughty Ones.

Piana Raze
at
Jody's C.W.O.T.
(3 - 8)
(3 - 8)

series history: Jody leads 5-2
last meeting: Week 7, 2000
PIANA 40, vs Jody 9

In the least significant game on the Week 12 slate, the playoff ineligible Piana Raze travel to visit the playoff-ineligible Jody's Colossal Waste of Time in what could be a preview of this year's Draft Bowl. Of course it may not, since one team should earn their fourth win. Piana comes into the contest losing eight of its last nine games; Jody has dropped its last three after flirting with respectability with two mid-season wins.

Tom Brady will be making his second career start for the Raze, who seemed to have lost faith in an unproductive Brian Griese. Garrison Hearst has been a buoy for the offense since being brought over from Sims, and he will likely be joined in the backfield by Charlie Garner. Outside of Griese, the biggest disappointment for Piana has been its New Orleans defense, which has only contributed a combined 6 points in their past three games. As for the C.W.O.T., they'll have to go without Kerry Collins, who's on a bye, and will either field Doug Fluite or Elvis Grbac. The C.W.O.T. backfield has been decimated with injuries; not a single potential starter is 100%. Yet their Dolphin defense is playing better football of late, giving hope that a fallen franchise can end the season with a win or two.

Abstract Machines
at
Irwin Hellions
(6 - 5)
(9 - 2)
series history: Irwin leads 8-3
last meeting: Week 5
IRWIN 40, at Machines 37

The Abstract Machines beat the Raze last week to break back into the win column and above .500, and now get a second shot at the three-time division champion Irwin Hellions. The Hellions are coming off an inspiring come-from-behind road victory at Anderson, and are still playing for the No. 1 postseason seed.

The Machines are beginning to post big numbers on offense once again thanks largely to their two big guns: Marshall Faulk and Marvin Harrison. Irwin's having to suffer through the loss of Edgerrin James and possibly Wade Richey, but Warrick Dunn and Dominic Rhodes have kept the Hellion offense a formidable threat. The Machines, having already clinched a playoff berth, are still playing to host a Wild Card game. The Hellions have won the last meetings, however, not to mention the Machines' horrific luck on the road.

P.W.O.P.
at
Thomas' Bock Boys
(5 - 6)
(6 - 5)
series history: P.W.O.P. leads 2-1
last meeting: Week 4
Thomas 31, at P.W.O.P. 34

P.W.O.P. has a shot this week to sweep the season series from the Bock Boys, double the team's win total from 2000, and possibly clinch a playoff spot. Thomas, on the other hand, is already in the playoffs, is fighting for a possible home game in the first round, and is looking to avenge a three-point Week 4 loss to these Profiteer$. Need I mention the whole father/son angle?

P.W.O.P. has won two in a row thanks to the elevated play of Jeff Garcia and Ahman Green. The Profiteer$ will need big games form them as well as the incredible disappearing Randy Moss if they hope to keep up with the likes of Thomas' Daunte Culpepper, Priest Holmes, and David Boston. The Bock Boys may also hold the defensive edge, where their Eagles defense has constantly outperformed P.W.O.P.'s inconsistent Raiders squad. As good as the Bock Boys are at home, this may be the best chance for the Profiteer$ to make the playoff field, especially considering they visit the 9-2 Pimps to close out the regular season. This is by far the most important game in the young history of this series.

Game of the Week
Anderson Brewmeisters
at
Sims Stereco
(4 - 7)
(4 - 7)
series history: Sims leads 4-3
last meeting: Week 8
Sims 24, at ANDERSON 31

Why would a pair of teams already locked into having losing records be given the spotlight of the Game of the Week? Because at 4-7, the Sims Stereco and Anderson Brewmeisters are playing an elimination game with the loser being eliminated from playoff contention.

The Anderson Brewmeisters enter the fray winning three of their last four, including a Week 8 bout with Sims. Despite a poor showing against the Hellions last week, Peyton Manning will get the call at quarterback. Duce Staley and rookie LaDainian Tomlinson will anchor the backfield, while Torry Holt, Laveranues Coles, and the revived Eric Moulds will run the routes. The offense is certainly capable of big games, but the Brewmeisters have been lacking the explosive defensive effort they grew accustomed to last season. Anderson made need one to keep alive whatever playoff aspirations it has.

The struggling Stereco enter the game having lost five of their last six. Kurt Warner will sit out his second straight game giving the elusive Aaron Brooks another shot at a win. With two-thirds the Stereco runningbacks out on bye, Ricky Williams will hold down the backfield while being assisted by a quartet of receivers. The Stereco will need to play their game of year to split the season series with Anderson and stay alive for a postseason berth. History says they will: Sims has never lost to the Brew Krew at home .
