Week 11 Previews

Sims Stereco
at
The Pimps
(4 - 6)
(8 - 2)
series history: Pimps lead 5-4
last meeting: Week 4
Pimps 28, at SIMS 45

The Pimps are on cloud nine after downing the Irwin Hellions at the Hellhole last week in a battle of division leaders. Overall they've won six straight games; their last defeat came way back in Week 4 against - you guessed it - the Sims Stereco. The Stereco have to be feeling pretty good themselves, having just trounced Jody's C.W.O.T. to inch closer to a playoff berth.

This is a game that could be very dangerous for The East leading Pimps, who could suffer from an emotional letdown after last week's big game. Moreover, they could be looking past the Stereco to next week's matchup against the Naughty Figs, which is the only team standing in the way of The Pimps' second divisional title. Topping that off, The Pimps will be going without the injured Mark Brunell for the second straight week. Instead, they'll rely on freshly-inked Alex Van Pelt to lead the offense. Sims will also be going with a new QB this week, giving Aaron Brooks his second start of the season. This is a rivalry that brings out the best in both clubs, but ultimately this game is more important to the Stereco, who need to win two of their last three to be playoff eligible. Momentum is on their side, however, as they've won the last two meetings against The Pimps.

Irwin Hellions
at
Anderson Brewmeisters
(8 - 2)
(4 - 6)

series history: Anderson leads 3-0
last meeting: Week 4, 2000
Irwin 24, at ANDERSON 40

The Irwin Hellions make their fourth visit in as many years to Saint Arnold Stadium to take on the resurgent Anderson Brewmeisters. Despite losing to The Pimps last week, the Hellions earned their third division title, leaving only history, pride, and the No. 1 seeding left to play for in the final three weeks. Anderson, who started the season 1-6, have reeled off three straight wins to become a surprising playoff contender.

The Hellions should be happy to have already won the West, as they will likely have their hands full against Anderson. The league's leading rusher, Curtis Martin, is out on a bye for Irwin, and the Hellions have already lost Edgerrin James for the season. This leaves Warrick Dunn and Dominic Rhodes to establish a ground game for Brett Favre. On the other sideline, the Brewmeisters' LaDainian Tomlinson and Duce Staley are showing steady improvement in the backfield and have opened up Peyton Manning's passing assault. Obviously, this game is more important to win for the Brewmeisters, and history is on their side: Anderson has won all three meetings with Irwin by an average of 28 points.

Naughty Figs
at
P.W.O.P.
(6 - 4)
(4 - 6)
series history: Figs lead 2-0
last meeting: Draft Bowl IV
B.Y.O.B. 27, at Players 23

It's the 2001 rematch of the 2000 Draft Bowl as the slumping Naughty Figs visit the improved P.W.O.P.. The Figs dropped a heartbreaker to the Brewskies last week at home and have lost four of their last six overall. The Profiteer$ are riding high after beating the Machines in Week 10 to post their fourth victory of the season, a franchise first since 1998.

Rich Gannon has been the glue holding the Figs together over the past month and a half. His performance at quarterback has been among the league's best, but he'll need to be above par against the Profiteer$ youthful Jeff Garcia this week. Randy Moss finally had his 2001 Coming Out Party against the Machines, and the P.W.O.P. can only hope he keeps his production up. While the Profiteer$ may hold the offensive advantage over the Figs, their defense has been shaky at best. Can their Raiders keep pace with the Figs' Ravens or Browns? If so, the Profiteer$ could find themselves only a game away from an unlikely playoff berth.

Piana Raze
at
Abstract Machines
(3 - 7)
(5 - 5)
series history: Piana leads 5-4
last meeting: Week 8
MACHINES 31, at Piana 6

After losing yet another close game on the road, the 5-5 Abstract Machines come home to host the 3-7 Piana Raze. Last week's loss to the P.W.O.P. ended whatever shot the Machines had at the division title, but they can still lock up a home game in the playoffs with a strong finish. As for the Raze, they would have to win out to be playoff eligible, which seems improbable given their inconsistent play.

The Machines will be looking to get the ball to Marshall Faulk and Corey Dillon early and often. The Raze certainly can't match such consistent production in their own backfield, and will be relying on a four-receiver run-and-shoot. On the defensive side of the ball, the Machines' Rams team has vastly improved since last season, whereas Piana's once-dominant Saints unit has struggled significantly in the past two weeks, only stripping two points away from their last two opponents. The Machines have won four of the last five in the series, including three straight..

Game of the Week
Jody's C.W.O.T.
at
Thomas' Bock Boys
(3 - 7)
(5 - 5)
series history: Jody leads 1-0
last meeting: Week 6, 2000
JODY 44, at Thomas 16

Jody's Colossal Waste of Time makes its second career visit to Bockyard Stadium to take on Thomas' Bock Boys in what amounts to a playoff game for last season's Super Bowl runner-up. Jody, already guaranteed of having a losing season, has to win out and get some help to avoid missing the playoffs for the first time in the league's five year history.

The C.W.O.T. have struggled on all levels this season, particularly the running game. Last season, Eddie George and Stephen Davis were a formidable duo in the backfield, but George has been a surprising bust, and Stephen Davis is just now getting back to a productive level. Perhaps the biggest silver lining in an otherwise dismal campaign for Jody is Anthony Thomas, a midseason signing who has been electrifying on the ground.

Thomas's backfield has undergone a similar collapse since last season. Their two starters, Jamal Lewis and Robert Thomas, disappeared from the FLF landscape, and the Bock Boys have been running a consistent run-and-shoot in 2001, rotating in Priest Holmes, Mike Anderson, and Antowain Smith into the backfield. Unlike Jody, however, the Boys have an explosive quarterback in Daunte Culpepper and a slew of big-play receivers. Yet they've been mostly inconsistent which has attributed to Thomas' .500 record. Jody romped past Jody in Bockville last season, and the Boys would like nothing better than to avenge that loss by booting the C.W.O.T. from the playoff race. Desperation makes for great drama!
