The Pimps defeated the Irwin Hellions in
the battle of division leaders to extend their winning streak to
six while halting Irwin's own six-win run. Original Gangsta Jerry
Rice came up huge for the visiting Pimps, scoring 16 points behind
three touchdowns. Peerless Price followed suit with 10 points of
his own and Shaun Alexander continued his strong play with 9. Unfortunately,
Pimp QB Mark Brunell was a very late scratch from the game and left
his team a player shy, but Irwin could not capitalize. Johnnie Morton
led the Hellions with 8 points, but Donovan McNabb was held to 5
and Warrick Dunn and Curtis Martin combined for only an additional
10. Irwin's Tampa Bay defense claimed an 11-9 advantage over The
Pimps Packers "D", but it still left the Hellions losers
on their home turf for the second time this season. Don't cry too
much for Irwin, as the Hellions backed into their third consecutive
division title as the Abstract Machines fell to the P.W.O.P. (see
story below). Now they can focus on staying healthy knowing they'll
get a week off in the postseason. As for The Pimps, this was their
first victory over Irwin since Week 11 of 1998. More importantly,
the win keeps them ahead of the Naughty Figs in the East.

Stop the presses!! P.W.O.P. downed the division
rival Abstract Machines to earn their fourth win of the year. This
is truly significant because the Profiteer$ haven't won four games
in a season since the magical 1998 campaign. Speaking of magical,
Randy Moss lit up the Monday Night lights with a season-best 17
points, outdueling the Machines Morton Anderson by six to steal
the two-point win at home. This of course means the Machines were
victimized by the home field advantage for the third time this season.
Other offensive highlights were the Machines' Marshall Faulk and
the P.W.O.P.'s Jeff Garcia with 11 apiece. The Machines won the
defensive battle with their Rams unit doubling up the Profiteer$'
Raiders team, 16-8, but it wasn't enough to avoid the crushing loss.
In addition to evening their record at 5-5, the defeat hands the
Western Division title to the Irwin Hellions, leaving the Machines
to fight for a wild card. Surprisingly, the 4-6 P.W.O.P. now finds
itself only a game behind the Machines and on the playoff fringe.

The improbably rally of
the Anderson Brewmeisters continued as the Brew Krew avenged its
early season one-point loss to the Naughty Figs by dishing out its
own dramatic one-point justice. After a grueling struggle Sunday,
the Figs found themselves four points back of Anderson heading into
Monday night. The Figs' Cris Carter broke through at the start of
the fourth quarter for a TD and five points, but he was answered
by the Brewmeisters' Joe Jurevicius, who caught two huge passes
in the final minutes for two points and the win. Ironically, Jurevicius
was the lowest scoring offensive starter in Anderson's lineup; Mike
Vanderjagt led the team with 9 points while five others had 7. The
same could not be said for the Figs, who rode on the shoulders of
Rich Gannon and his 17 points. The other six starters combined for
only an additional 21 points. The Figs' Ravens defense claimed a
narrow 14-12 win over Anderson's Charger squad, but it still left
the home team a point shy. The win moves Anderson to 4-6 and into
legitimate playoff positioning while the loss drops the Figs to
6-4, two games back of the division leading Pimps.

The Sims Stereco snapped a four-game losing
streak with authority by routing the weary C.W.O.T. by 36 points,
60-24. Kurt Warner anchored the offensive explosion with 11 points
(which is 11 more than he posted last week), and runningbacks Tiki
Barber and Ricky Williams combined for an additional 20. The real
force of nature here was kicker David Akers, who delivered 19 backbreaking
points. On the other sideline, only Martin Gramatica (10 points)
reached double digits for Jody. In keeping with the theme of the
pounding, the C.W.O.T.'s Miami defense fell 14-6 to Sims' Giants
squad. The win is Sims' first over Jody since Week 12 of 1999. The
loss all but puts a fork in Jody's season. At 3-7, the defending
Eastern Division champions must win out in order to avoid missing
the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. As for the
Stereco, they move up to 4-6 to stay within the playoff peripheral.

Thomas' Bock Boys won for the first time this
season in a hostile environment as they outlasted the hapless Piana
Raze 46-35 at En Fuego Field. Remarkable, Piana claimed a narrow
55-49 offensive edge over Thomas thanks largely to Marty Booker's
career best 17 points and kicker John Carney's 12. The Bock Boys
kept it close thanks to Daunte Culpepper's 13 and David Boston's
10. Freshly-inked runningback Antowain Smith was shut out in his
Bock Boy debut, yet his absence on the scoreboard was made up for
by Thomas' Philadelphia defense. The Eagles, who sported two defensive
touchdowns of their own, routed Piana's Saints squad 28-3 to hand
Thomas the victory and season sweep. The Boys now return to .500
at 5-5 and into a tie with the Abstract Machines for playoff positioning.
Piana, having now lost seven of their last eight, is on the sheer
brink of playoff elimination.
