Week 8 Previews

Naughty Figs
vs
Jody's C.W.O.T.
(5 - 2)
(2 - 5)
series history: Figs lead 2-1
last meeting: Week 2
Jody 10, at FIGS 38

The Eastern division co-leading Naughty Figs visit last year's division champion Jody's C.W.O.T. in a near must-win game for Jody. A second loss to the Figs this season would leave the C.W.O.T. four games out with five to play, virtually killing any hopes of defending their crown.

Fortunately for Jody, the C.W.O.T. are riding high after an inspiring victory over the P.W.O.P., whereas the Figs are licking their wounds after an unsuccessful bout with the Hellions. Moreover, the Figs will be down to only two active receivers this week as a result of the bye week and a lack of transactions. The C.W.O.T. will be at full strength and will likely run out the youthful Anthony Thomas to wear down the Fig defense. If there ever is a single win that could turn this nightmare of a season around for the C.W.O.T., this would be it.

victims of the bye week:
Figs - REC Hakim, REC Carter
Jody - none

Sims Stereco
vs
Anderson Brewmeisters
(3 - 4)
(1 - 6)

series history: Sims leads 4-2
last meeting: Week 13, 2000
Sims 15, at ANDERSON 21

At 3-4, the on-again, off-again Sims Stereco are still searching for an identity in the 2001 campaign. The 1-6 Anderson Brewmeisters, however, are just a loss away from being branded with a losing record for the year. Anderson has now dropped four straight, and is still searching for its first home win of the season. The Stereco have struggled as well, dropping their last two, but sport a positive 2-1 record on the road.

Both teams will be missing powerful offensive weapons this week. Sims will have to go without the often supernatural Kurt Warner and instead rely on the capabilities of first-round draftee Aaron Brooks. Anderson will be without the electrifying Torry Holt, putting pressure on the likes of Peyton Manning and LaDainian Tomlinson to pick up the slack. This should be a fun one, with two familiar teams desperate for a turnaround looking to put a hurt on each other.

victims of the bye week:
Sims - QB Warner
Anderson - REC Holt

P.W.O.P.
vs
Irwin Hellions
(3 - 4)
(6 - 1)
series history: Irwin leads 8-1
last meeting: Week 2
IRWIN 41, at P.W.O.P. 32

The Profiteer$ and the Hellions is by far the most lopsided series in all the league, with Irwin having won eight of the nine career meetings, including the last five in a row. Yet P.W.O.P. is undeterred, coming into the game winning three of its last four. The Hellions, not to be outdone on any level, come into the contest riding a four-game winning streak.

P.W.O.P. will have to go without the services of Randy Moss this week, but the once-unstoppable receiver has yet to develop into a big threat this season. Jeff Garcia, Ahman Green, and Joe Nedney will shoulder the offensive charge instead, looking to match the Hellion regime of Brett Favre/Donovan McNabb, Curtis Martin, and Edgerrin James. If they can't, Irwin wins its fifth divisional game of the season and inches closer to its third consecutive Western crown.

victims of the bye week:
P.W.O.P. - RB Canidate, REC Moss
Irwin - REC Scott

Abstract Machines
vs
Piana Raze
(3 - 4)
(3 - 4)
series history: Piana leads 5-3
last meeting: Week 10, 2000
Piana 23, at MACHINES 30

The Abstract Machines come into a divisional matchup with the Piana Raze having lost three straight games by a combined five points. The Raze, on the other hand, are actually coming in off a win over the Brewmeisters that snapped a four-game losing streak. In the end, however, both clubs arrive at 3-4, three games out in the West.

This game features arguably the biggest toll from the bye week. Names like Faulk, Dillon, the Rams, and Bruce will all be off the starting lineups. As a result, these two teams - particularly the Machines - might be forced to spend some transactions in order to field a full squad. As for the Raze, who suffer less damages from the bye, this could be a prime opportunity to jump back into the thick of the playoff race. A fourth straight loss by the Machines would make that 3-1 record seem so very long ago.

victims of the bye week:
Machines - RB Faulk, RB Dillon, K Anderson, DEF St. Louis
Piana - RB Bennett, REC Bruce, REC Warrick

Game of the Week
Thomas' Bock Boys
vs
The Pimps
(4 - 3)
(5 - 2)
series history: Thomas leads 1-0
last meeting: Week 7, 2000
THOMAS 48, vs Pimps 23

In the only Week 8 matchup featuring a pair of teams with winning records, Thomas' Bock Boys travel to lock horns with Eastern division's Pimps. Both clubs enter the game riding three game win streaks that have placed them in the heat of their division races. And while a fourth straight win is Goal Number One, how could we ignore Goal Number Two: revenge?

The expansion Bock Boys laid quite a whuppin' on The Pimps in Week 7 of 2000, snapping their six-game winning streak and sending them into a nasty six-game skid. The Pimps managed to recover in time for the playoffs, but both teams fell a game shy of the Super Bowl. The Pimps are playing solid ball in 2001. Jerome Bettis is having one of his greatest seasons, and receiver Rod Smith is putting up points at a near record pace. Mark Brunell and Shaun Alexander, both signed in the first half of the season, have quickly developed into additional threats for The Pimps' offense. Yet it is the aggressive Green Bay defense that has kept The Pimps in most of their games, suffocating opponents' offensive powers.

After a 1-3 start, the Bock Boys are back in the saddle with the league's fourth best record. Daunte Culpepper has picked up his play during Thomas' three game win streak but will have to sit this one out on a bye. Trent Green will get his second start of the season instead, and the team hopes he can do better than his four-interception game against P.W.O.P.. While the running game is still looking to identify itself, the receiving corps, featuring Keyshawn Johnson, David Boston, and Tony Gonzales, has developed as one of the best in the league. On defense, Thomas relies on its Eagles squad to keep opponents' in check, and the Bock Boys will need a huge game from Philly this week if they hope to make it four in a row by slapping The Pimps once again.

victims of the bye week:
Thomas - QB Culpepper
Pimps - K Wilkens
