For the second consecutive year, the Irwin
Hellions roughed up the Naughty Figs during Neutral Site Week, reaffirming
themselves as the league's best team. Curtis Martin, the FLF's leading
rusher, led the Hellions with 10 points while wingman Edgerrin James
chipped in another 5. The Figs countered on the ground with 8 points
from rookie Jason Brookins and an additional 5 from Lamar Smith.
The Hellions pulled away on offense behind a 15 point effort from
the receiving corps (led by Jimmy Smith with 9), compared to the
Figs' 7-point tally. Irwin also claimed small victories over the
Figs at quarterback and kicker, putting the East Division leaders
at the mercy of the defending Super Bowl Champions. Yet there was
no quarter here, as the Hellions' Tampa Bay defense doubled up the
Figs' Baltimore squad 16-8 to seal the romp. With the win - their
fourth straight - Irwin moves to a league-best record of 6-1 and
sits firmly atop the West. The Figs, having now lost two of their
last three, fall to 5-2 but remain in first place in the East.

The Pimps downed the Abstract Machines for
the sixth consecutive time, using a dramatic Monday night comeback
to stun their Western Division opponent. Down 8 points after the
weekend, The Pimps' Jerome Bettis plowed for 62 yards, two scores,
and 9 game-breaking points Monday night to hand the seemingly cursed
Machines their third one-run loss of the season. Despite having
two players on each team posting zero points, there was plenty of
offense to go around. Corey Dillon of the Machines led all scorers
with a whopping 19 points, and quarterback Brad Johnson, making
his first start in place of the ineffective Elvis Grbac, posted
an impressive 10. On the other sideline, Mark Brunell had his best
start as a Pimp with 15 points, and Rod Smith posted an inspired
11. The Machines' Rams defense narrowly clipped The Pimps' Cardinals
squad 16-15, but it still left the team two points shy of a win.
The Pimps, now winners of three straight, move into a first place
tie with the Figs at 5-2. The Machines have now dropped three straight
to fall a full three games back of the Hellions in the West.

Jody's Colossal Waste of
Time summoned their best performance of the season to rout the P.W.O.P.
and snap their franchise-worst five game losing steak. Surprisingly,
this was done with Eddie George and Stephen Davis sitting on the
bench. Instead, newly-signed Richard Huntley and rookie Anthony
Thomas combined for a solid 12 points. Yet it was Kerry Collins,
Joe Horn, and Martin Gramatica that truly led the assault with 12
points apiece. The Profiteer$ could counter mostly with 8 points
from Jeff Garcia and 5 each from Trung Candidate, Emmit Smith, and
Randy Moss. The P.W.O.P. Bronco defense dominated Jody's Dolphin
squad 22-14, but that was a Pyrrhic victory as the Profiteer$ lose
for the first time in four games. The loss drops the P.W.O.P. into
a third place tie in the West, while the win draws the fourth place
C.W.O.T. to within three games of the Eastern lead.

In the ugliest game of Neutral Site Week,
Thomas' Bock Boys did just enough to outscore the suddenly struggling
Sims Stereco by five. Bock Boy Tony Gonzales led all scorers with
7 points, while Daunte Culpepper and David Boston chipped in six
apiece. The Stereco's Kurt Warner was held to three points thanks
to four interceptions, while Frank Wycheck and Tiki Barber led their
offense with five each. As slow as the offenses were, the defenses
were worse, with Sims' Giants squad claiming a 7-1 advantage over
Thomas' underachieving Eagles team. The loss is the second straight
for the Stereco, keeping them two games off the pace at third in
the East. The win is the third straight for the Bock Boys and first
away from Bockville. Most importantly, it moves Thomas into sole
possession of second place in the West, two games back of the Hellions.

The Piana Raze snapped a four-game losing streak
behind a monster game from its New Orleans defense to clip the struggling
Anderson Brewmeisters, 25-20. The Saints "D" recovered
eight turnovers and bested Anderson's newly signed Charger squad
- released last week by Piana - 23-15. Piana's Issac Bruce and Charlie
Garner posted season highs with 12 and 8 points, respectively. Peyton
Manning had a strong 8 for Anderson, and Mike Vanderjagt booted
and additional 10. Both sides were not without problems however,
as the Brewmeisters ground duo of LaDainian Tomlinson and Michael
Pittman could only combine for six points while the Raze's quarterback
choice of Vinny Testeverde actually coughed up two points of charity
to the Brew Crew. In the end, however, the New Orleans defense took
control of the game and handed Anderson their sixth loss of the
season. The win elevates Piana into a third place tie in the Western
Division.
