Week 7 Previews

The Pimps
vs
Abstract Machines
(4 - 2)
(3 - 3)
series history: Pimps lead 5-1
last meeting: Week 6, 2000
Machines 34, at PIMPS 41

The Pimps entered Neutral Site Week 2000 with a perfect record of 6-0, were whipped by the Bock Boys 48-23, and then proceeded to drop their next five ball games. Now, they return to the scene of the crime and tackle the hard luck Abstract Machines, who have lost three games by a combined five points.

Brad Johnson will get the nod at Machines' starting quarterback this week; Elvis Grbac, who has scored minus(-)3 points over the last two weeks, will ride the pine. The Machines might still have to go without Marshall Faulk, but The Pimps will definitely be without the league-leading Green Bay defense, who sit out on a bye. All-in-all, The Pimps have won the last five meetings against the Machines, and Jerome Bettis and Shaun Alexander make a strong case for this to be the sixth.

Machines - REC Mathis, REC Johnson

Sims Stereco
vs
Thomas' Bock Boys
(3 - 3)
(3 - 3)

series history: Thomas leads 1-0
last meeting: Week 11, 2000
THOMAS 51, at Sims 15

Four weeks into the season, the 1-3 Bock Boys could have been written off as contenders in the West, but two strong wins at home have elevated the Boys back into the divisional race. The Sims Stereco are coming off a tough loss but have won three of four overall and is looking to stay in a divisional race of its own.

In their only other meeting, Thomas hammered a quarterback-less Sims team 51-15. The Stereco's Kurt Warner will see action from the field this time around, and he looks to lead the Stereco past the young Daunte Culpepper and the Bock Boys. Thomas has yet to have any success on the road, posted all three of its wins at home. Sims, by contrast, has played an impressive 2-1 away from its home turf. Can't ask for much more than two .500 teams teetering on the fine line between a winning and losing record.

victims of the bye week:
Sims - none
Thomas - K Dawson

Jody's C.W.O.T.
vs
P.W.O.P.
(1 - 5)
(3 - 3)
series history: Jody leads 5-1
last meeting: Week 12, 2000
Players 12, at JODY 31

One of the charms of Neutral Site Week is that it features a defending division champion against the opposite division's fifth place finisher. Funny how things change over six weeks. Jody's Colossal Waste of Time enters Week 7 at 1-5, tied for last in the East, and has already matched last season's loss total. P.W.O.P., by contrast, is two games better at 3-3, having already matched last season's win total, and is tied for second in the West.

P.W.O.P. will have to fight the C.W.O.T. without Ahman Green, who will sit out on a bye. Jody will be at full strength and will rely on its own ground game of Eddie George and Stephen Davis to punish the defense. Yet the C.W.O.T. have lost five straight, whereas the Profiteer$ - no strangers to long losing streaks themselves - have actually won three in a row. Can Jody break back into the win column, or will the Profiteer$ break over the .500 mark for the first time since the end of the 1998 season.

victims of the bye week:
Jody - none
P.W.O.P. - RB Green

Anderson Brewmeisters
vs
Piana Raze
(1 - 5)
(2 - 4)
series history: Piana leads 3-1-1
last meeting: Week 6, 2000
PIANA 33, at Anderson 20

A classic interdivisional rivalry is renewed for 2001 as the Anderson Brewmeisters and Piana Raze meet on a neutral field. Between the two franchises, there are three Super Bowl Championships and three divisional crowns. Halfway through this season, however, the two have combined for only three wins, with both clubs sitting in last place.

The Raze have been pathetic on offense, particularly over the last two games where they've averaged only 21.5 offensive points, and have dropped a total of four straight. Anderson has been plagued with unlucky lineup decisions and injuries, leading to three straight losses of its own. Vinny Testeverde will likely get the start for Piana over the ineffective Brian Griese, but whether he can inspire the rest of the offense remains to be seen. On the other sideline, the Brew Crew is waiting for the real Peyton Manning to stand up deliver this team back to the promised land. The good news is that someone has to win this game, right?

victims of the bye week:
Anderson - none

Game of the Week
Naughty Figs
vs
Irwin Hellions
(5 - 1)
(5 - 1)
series history: Irwin leads 1-0
last meeting: Week 7, 2000
IRWIN 46, vs B.Y.O.B. 9

Honestly, what more could you ask for than a neutral field contest between the two division leaders with identical 5-1 records? Can you say possible Super Bowl preview? So far this season, the Naughty Figs have gone from worst to first in the East while Irwin has gone from first to first to first.

Indeed, the Hellions seem to be forming the league's first dynasty. Having already won consecutive Western division titles, the Hellions have stormed out to a two-game lead in the division at the season's midway point. How they've done so is really no surprise. With Edgerrin James and Curtis Martin pounding the ball on the ground and either Brett Favre or Donovan McNabb calling the signals, the Hellions field arguably the most potent offense in the league.

The Figs, while not sporting quite the firepower of the Hellions, have gotten to 5-1 by going toe-to-toe with opponents and finishing one step ahead. In fact, four of their five wins have been by five points or less, with two of those by a single point. Yet while the Figs currently sit atop the East, there's still a long way to go before the worst-to-first transition is made a reality, particularly since the Figs are likely to spend their last transaction to field a kicker against the Hellions. Despite that, there's no telling what kind of confidence will be earned if a Draft Bowl participant can score a win over the defending Super Bowl champions. Figs versus Hellions. Don't miss it!

victims of the bye week:
Figs - Qb Couch, RB M. Smith, K Longwell, DEF Cleveland
Irwin - QB Favre
