Week 6 Recaps
Profiteer$ grease the Stereco
The suddenly surging P.W.O.P. downs Sims for their third straight victory, and Elvis Grbac coughs up a Machines' win against the Naughty Figs. All this and more in...

The Week That Was in Fantasy League Football

P.W.O.P.
25
Sims Stereco
18

In a disappointing 2000, Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$ won only three of their fourteen games. A series of offseason moves followed, and the improved P.W.O.P. team captured their third win of 2001 in only six weeks of play by besting the Sims Stereco, 25-18. Kicker Joe Nedney, drafted in the second round by the Profiteer$, lead all scorers with 15 points. Ahman Green, their first round selection, turned in an additional six while James Thrash, nabbed in the fifth round, scored a game-saving seven points Monday night. Surprisingly, the Stereco's offense could only muster 26 points, compared to a stout 44 offered up by the P.W.O.P.. Kurt Warner lad the cause for Sims with seven points, but other starters struggled to score and Albert Connell was shut out completely. Sims' Giants defense bested P.W.O.P.'s new Denver squad 19-10, but it wasn't nearly enough to avoid having their three game winning streak snapped and their record evened at 3-3. The win, P.WO.P.'s first over an Eastern divisional foe since 1999, draws the Profiteer$ back to .500 after having lost their first three games of the season.

Abstract Machines
22
NAUGHTY FIGS
23

The Abstract Machines fall victim to the home field advantage for the second time this season, falling to the East-leading Naughty Figs, 23-22. What makes this loss that much more difficult to take is Elvis Grbac coughing up three turnovers and stripping three points away from his own team. Last week, Grbac posted a goose egg as the Machines fell to Irwin 40-37. In much the same fashion, the other Machine starters kept the game close, even in the absence of Marshall Faulk. Marvin Harrison posted a season-best 11 points and kicker Gary Anderson chipped in another nine. Yet the Figs answered with 10 big points from Tim Couch and six more from Cris Carter to draw to within two. Defensively, the Figs' Baltimore unit stripped a single point more away than the Machines' Rams squad to cut the deficit to one. This left the fate of the game in the hands of the home field, and the visiting Machines were tagged with their second loss in as many weeks. The Naughty Figs squeak back into the win column to retain sole possession of first in the East.

IRWIN HELLIONS
30
Jody's C.W.O.T.
26

It was much closer than last December's league championship game, but the result is the same as the Irwin Hellions escape the Vortex with a four-point win over Jody's Colossal Waste of Time. Brett Favre and Edgerrin James each had seven points for the Hellions, and kicker Wade Richey booted an additional 10. It was the C.W.O.T., however, that claimed a victory on offense as Doug Flutie poured in 11 points in leading a well-balanced counterattack. Yet Irwin found Jody's Achilles' heel in their rent-to-own Panther defense, who were subbing for the off-week Dolphins. Carolina's "D" could only muster four points to help its cause and were no match for the Hellion's Buccaneer squad, who finally came to play with 13 points. The loss is the franchise record fifth straight for Jody, who now sit a full four games back in the East. The win, Irwin's first regular season victory over Jody since 1997, elevates the Hellions to 5-1 and a full two games clear of anyone else in the West.

THE PIMPS
33
Anderson Brewmeisters
31

The Pimps helped the Anderson Brewmeisters christen Saint Arnold Stadium in Week 6, but didn't go by the script in tagging the Brew Crew with their third straight defeat. Jerome Bettis, who is usually and unfairly left off lists of the league's elite, punished the Brewmeisters for 13 points. The Bus even tare a touchdown pass to Derrick Alexander, who finished the day with eight points of his own. Anderson almost kept pace with The Pimps' offense thanks to strong showings from Michael Pittman (10 points), Mike Vanderjagt (9 points), and Peyton Manning (8 points). Yet the receiving corps, usually the heart and soul of the Brewmeister attack, could only combine for a paltry four points. On defense, The Pimps' Green Bay team had a season-low six points against, but it was enough against Anderson's Jaguars' four, securing the season sweep for The Pimps. At 4-2, the feathered ones keep pace with the division leading Figs while Anderson is left to ponder a dismal 1-5 record halfway into the season.

Piana Raze
10
THOMAS' BOCK BOYS
36

Thomas' Bock Boys had their way with the Piana Raze - again - at beautiful Bockyard Stadium. Daunte Culpepper burned the Raze for 12 points, while David Boston and Keyshawn Johnson combined for an additional 18. By contrast, receiver Marty Booker led the Raze with 5. Piana could only manage 22 offensive points against Thomas, or one more than they managed last week against P.W.O.P.. On defense, Thomas' Eagles squad clipped Piana's Saints unit 12-11 in a really insignificant stat. The win is the second straight for the Bock Boys who now climb back to .500 and sit tied for second in the West at 3-3. The loss is Piana's fourth straight, and there is no immediate hope in sight.
