Week 6 Previews

The Pimps
at
Anderson Brewmeisters
(3 - 2)
(1 - 4)
series history: tied 4-4
last meeting: Week 2
Anderson 8, at PIMPS 33

The Anderson Brewmeisters host the division rival Pimps at newly christened Saint Arnold Stadium to kick off Week 6 in the FLF. The Pimps are coming off a big win against Jody and are now looking to sweep the season series from the Brewmeisters. Anderson has dropped two straight and is desperately needing to regain some ground in the East.

The Brewmeisters are still beat up and nursing a score of injuries, but The Pimps might be hurting more as a result of the expanded bye week. Shaun Alexander and Jerry Rice, strong performers in The Pimps' last two games, will be sitting this one out. Unfortunately for Anderson, the Green Bay Packer defense will not be. Leading the league with a commanding 20.4 points per game, the Packers will keep The Pimps in the contest. The question is can Peyton Manning and company put up enough offense to get back into the win column.

victims of the bye week:
Pimps - QB Wright, RB Alexander, RB Watters, REC Rice
Anderson - none

Irwin Hellions
at
Jody's C.W.O.T.
(4 - 1)
(1 - 4)

series history: Jody leads 5-3
last meeting: Super Bowl IV
IRWIN 41, vs Jody 30

The world champion Irwin Hellions visit the world runner-up Jody's Colossal Waste of Time in a rematch of last season's Super Bowl. Irwin hasn't missed much of a beat, winning four of its first five games. The C.W.O.T. meanwhile have imploded, losing four straight as well as their handle on the Eastern Division.

Irwin has been consistently lighting up the scoreboard with the likes of Brett Favre, Edgerrin James, and Curtis Martin. The Hellions have posted at least 40 points in each of their four wins. The C.W.O.T., by contrast, have only broken the 30-point barrier once, in their Week 1 victory over Sims. What's worse for Jody is that they'll have to go without receiver Tim Brown and the Dolphins defense, whereas Irwin shall be playing at full strength. In 2000, Jody wasn't tagged with its fifth loss until Week 13; Irwin could get the honors here in Week 6.

victims of the bye week:
Irwin - none
Jody - REC Brown, DEF Miami

Abstract Machines
at
Naughty Figs
(3 - 2)
(4 - 1)
series history: Machines lead 1-0
last meeting: Week 3, 2000
B.Y.O.B. 15, at MACHINES 47

Two clubs that missed out on the playoffs last season have made strong starts in 2001, yet both the Abstract Machines and the Naughty Figs enter this game coming off tough divisional losses last week. Now both teams get the opportunity to take out last week's frustrations on an interdivisional foe and break back into the win column.

The Machines lost a close one to Irwin last week thanks largely to surprisingly poor play from Elvis Grbac and Marshall Faulk. Grbac will get his shot at redemption this week, while Faulk may have to wait due to a bruised knee. That's good news for the Figs, who be without key starters Rich Gannon and Lamar Smith. Tim Couch, who started for the Machines in their only Super Bowl appearance, will call signals this week for the Figs. Rams vs. Ravens should be a dandy defensive matchup as well.

victims of the bye week:
Machines - REC Gadsden, DEF Dallas
Figs - QB Gannon, RB Smith, REC Stokes, REC Robinson

Piana Raze
at
Thomas' Bock Boys
(2 - 3)
(2 - 3)
series history: tied 1-1
last meeting: Week 8, 2000
Thomas 34, at PIANA 51

Two Western division rivals with equal losing records clash heads this week in hopes of returning to .500. Thomas is coming off a strong win against the Brewmeisters and is undefeated this season at beautiful Bockyard Stadium. Piana has fallen hard and fast after winning its first two contests on the road. If a three-game losing streak isn't enough motivation for the Raze, Week 1 of 2000 should be.

Thomas' Bock Boys made their franchise debut in the FLF that week, hosting the Piana Raze. Yet it was not Thomas that looked like the expansion club, as the Bock Boys destroyed the Raze 39-0 in front of the home crowd. Piana got even at En Fuego Field later in the season, but the Bockville Massacre still haunts them. Bad news for the Raze - their only healthy starting runningback is off on a bye. Knowing Bock Boy owner Thomas Pirkle, the victory parade is already being planned.

victims of the bye week:
Piana - RB Garner
Thomas - none

Game of the Week
P.W.O.P.
at
Sims Stereco
(2 - 3)
(3 - 2)
series history: tied 2-2-1
last meeting: Week 7, 2000
SIMS 42, vs Players 28

Who would have thought a game between the P.W.O.P. and Sims Stereco would draw so much attention this deep into the season. Yet here they are, each sporting winning streaks and gaining ground in their respective divisions.

For the P.W.O.P., this is their first contest outside of the West, which may not necessarily be a good thing; last season, the Profiteer$ went 0-for-the East, losing all six of their interdivisional matchups. As if that didn't put enough pressure on for the win, the P.W.O.P. are being hit hardest by this week's bye teams. Last week's hero, Jeff Garcia, as well as Emmitt Smith and the Raider defense will not be available to the Profiteer$, leaving Steve McNair, Ahman Green, and Randy Moss to get the job done.

The Stereco haven't lost to the P.W.O.P. franchise since Week 1 of the '98 season. They've won three games in a row against teams with winning records, and they weren't hit nearly as bad by the bye week. Despite having to go without Terrell Owens, Sims will still start the explosive talents of Kurt Warner and Ricky Williams. So while these factors certainly point in favor of the Stereco, the P.W.O.P. could be more hungry. Having won only three games all of last season, three in a row would be a major step back to respectability for the Profiteer$.

victims of the bye week:
P.W.O.P. - QB Garcia, RB Smith, RB Wheatley, REC Streets, DEF Oakland
Sims - RB Hearst, REC Owens, REC Galloway
