Week 4 Recaps
Stereco shine against Pimps
Kurt Warner and the Sims Stereco outdueled The Pimps in yet another classic, and the Hellions roughed up the Raze. All this and more in...

The Week That Was in Fantasy League Football

The Pimps
28
SIMS STERECO
45

The Pimps and the Stereco had another one of those games this week, the kind where the rest of league looks on with awe. In a game that was closer than the score, these two teams posted the two best performances of the week. Sims, apparently still high from their Week 3 victory over Irwin, turned in a staggering 86-point effort - by far the best in the league this year. There were offensive starts on both sides; Ricky Williams and Terrell Owens each had 12 points for Sims, while Jerome Bettis, Peerless Price, and Rod Smith turned in at least 8 apiece for The Pimps. Yet it was newly-signed Pimp Shaun Alexander that led all scorers with an impressive 16-point debut. Despite all the fireworks on offense, Sims actually won the game on the other side of the ball. In what was ultimately the game breaker, the Stereco's New York Giants squad doubled up The Pimps stout Packer team 31-15, giving Sims a two-point lead heading into Monday night. With The Pimps out of players, Sims' Kurt Warner tacked on another 15 "forget me not" points as overkill. With the win, Sims evens its record to 2-2 and scores its first divisional victory. This is already the second divisional loss for The Pimps, who see their two-game winning streak snapped as they drop back to 2-2.

Piana Raze

IRWIN HELLIONS
44

The Irwin Hellions rebounded from last week's loss to Sims to trump the Piana Raze at Purgatory Field. Looking much like the Championship team from last year, Irwin had four offensive starters with at least nine points. With Edgerrin James off on a bye, the Hellions went with the run and shoot, and Curtis Martin single-handedly embarrassed Piana's runningback duo of Michael Bennett and Charlie Garner 14-6. Donovan McNabb (9 points), Marcus Robinson (9 points), and Wade Richey (10 points) all had big games. Bill Schroeder (9 points) and Jason Elam (10 points) provided highlight material for Piana, but it wasn't nearly enough. Irwin's Buccaneer defense clinched the win by outperforming the Raze's Charger squad 14-12. The wins keeps Irwin perfect in divisional play and makes up for last year's series sweep at the hands of Piana. The loss is the second straight for the Raze, dropping them out of a first place tie atop the West.

NAUGHTY FIGS

Anderson Brewmeisters
22

The Anderson Brewmeisters fell two points shy of pulling an upset over the East leading Naughty Figs. Having already spotted the Figs a player by not starting a replacement for the unavailable Peyton Manning, the Brew Crew actually made a game of it thanks to strong performances from LaDainian Tomlinson (9 points) and Eric Moulds (8 points). The Figs countered with a monster 11-point game from Lamar Smith, and their Raven defense - who last year stuffed offenses for the Brewmeisters - beat out Anderson's Jaguar squad 17-8. Going into Monday night, the Brewmeisters trailed the Figs by only three points, but Torry Holt could only beat out Az-Zahir Hakim 7-5, preserving the slimmest of victories to the Naughty Figs. The win is the fourth straight to open the season for the Figs, and they remain the lone undefeated team in the league. The loss, meanwhile, drops Anderson to a disappointing 1-3, three games back in the East.

Jody's C.W.O.T.

ABSTRACT MACHINES
11

The Abstract Machines used a huge Monday night rally to score the franchise's first victory over Jody's Colossal Waste of Time in three years. In a defensive affair that saw both offenses struggle, Jody managed to stick the Machines in a daunting 29-point hole going into Monday night, thanks largely to the Dolphins' 27-point defensive effort (for those scoring at home, that's 29 points better than last week). Yet Marshall Faulk and the St. Louis defense did the somewhat improbable, scoring 9 and 24 points, respectively, to complete a rousing comeback for the surging Machines. The 1-3 start is the worst ever for a C.W.O.T. team. In a disturbing but telling statistic: Eddie George, who blurted for 18 points in last year's Super Bowl, has only 10 points in three appearances this season. The Machines, by contrast, are off to their third consecutive 3-1 start to a season.

Thomas' Bock Boys

P.W.O.P.

It wasn't an overly pretty game, but it was a work of art for the Profiteer$, who down the rival Bock Boys to capture their first victory of the year and only second in their last 13 games. The two defenses - Thomas' Eagles and P.W.O.P.'s Raiders - posted subpar 5-point efforts, leaving the game in the hands of the two offenses. Mike Anderson (11 points) and freshly-inked kicker Phil Dawson (8 points) led the charge for Thomas while Ty Wheatley (8 points) and Jeff Garcia (12 points) led the counteroffensive for P.W.O.P.. Despite these highlights, it could be argued that the game was ultimately decided by Trent Green. Daunte Culpepper, benched in favor of Green, could only cringe from the sidelines as Trent proceeded to throw four interceptions and strip two points away from his own team. When the final gun sounded, the Profiteer$ were victorious, and they had moved up into a last place tie with the Bock Boys at 1-3.
