Week 4 Previews

Naughty Figs
at
Anderson Brewmeisters
(3 - 0)
(1 - 2)
series history: tied 1-1
last meeting: Week 10, 2000
Anderson 25, at B.Y.O.B. 41

The Naughty Figs are the surprise team of the young season, exploding out of the gate for a perfect 3-0 record. The Anderson Brewmeisters, at 1-2, have been somewhat of a disappointment. Already banged up and bruised and facing the top team in the league, now is not the time to have to go without your starting QB, a kicker, and a receiver, but Anderson has never been one to turn its back to adversity.

No Manning, Paython, Vanderjagt, Taylor, or Staley, no problem? The Naughty Figs lost Jamal Anderson last week, but will still field a more complete starting lineup than the Bruised Crew. Last season, Anderson spent three transactions in one week only to take a loss against the Bock Boys. Are they willing to concede a loss this time, already down two games in the division? Or will they go for broke again in hopes of scoring the upset?

victims of the bye week:
Figs - none
Anderson - QB Manning, REC Paython, K Vanderjagt

Jody's C.W.O.T.
at
Abstract Machines
(1 - 2)
(2 - 1)

series history: Jody leads 3-2
last meeting: Week 1, 2000
JODY 28, at Machines 14

Jody's Colossal Waste of Time has now dropped two straight games, but is looking at the Abstract Machines as a stopper. Dating back to 1998, Jody has taken the last three meetings from the Mechanical Ones. Yet one gets the feeling that these two clubs may be on the way to opposite and unfamiliar ends of the ladder.

The C.W.O.T. are struggling; Eddie George and Stephen Davis have performed well below expectations, and even the defense is showing cracks. The Machines seem to be on the up and up; Elvis Grbac is settling into his role at QB, and Marshall Faulk has been, well, Marshall Faulk. As a result, the Machines are tied for first in the West, while Jody is already two games back in the East and is desperate to make up ground.

victims of the bye week:
Jody - none
Machines - REC Harrison

Thomas' Bock Boys
at
P.W.O.P.
(1 - 2)
(0 - 3)
series history: tied 1-1
last meeting: Week 10, 2000
Players 27, at THOMAS 65

In the third installment of Father vs. Son, Thomas visits Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$ in hopes of breaking back into the win column. The P.W.O.P., facing their fourth divisional opponent in as many weeks, is still looking for that prized first win of the campaign. History may be on their side, as one of their three victories in 2000 came here at home against the Bock Boys.

Thomas is coming off a tough loss to the Naughty Figs and is still trying to establish a ground game in wake of Robert Smith and Jamal Lewis' departure. P.W.O.P., by contrast, has actually reinforced its ground crew with Ahman Green, but is waiting for it's usually dependable receiving corps to perform to expectations. Expect a gritty game; with only one win between them, there's a lot more than pride on the line.

victims of the bye week:
Thomas - none
P.W.O.P - none

Piana Raze
at
Irwin Hellions
(2 - 1)
(2 - 1)
series history: Piana leads 6-3
last meeting: Week 13, 2000
PIANA 16, at Irwin 0

The 2-1 Piana Raze visit the 2-1 Irwin Hellions in a key Western Division bout. Both teams are coming off Week 3 losses, which has taken some of the shine off an otherwise highly-anticipated installment of this great rivalry. Despite winning the Western division crown en route to a Super Bowl victory, the Hellions were convincingly swept by the Raze in 2000, 17-3 and 16-0.

The Hellions hope to rebound from a poor showing against the Stereco, but will have to do so without all star Edgerrin James, who is out on a bye. Curtis Martin and Donovan McNabb / Brett Favre will have to step up their game to an even higher level to accommodate his absence. The Raze are already 2-0 on the road, and will be leaning on Brian Griese and Isaac Bruce to deliver a third straight over the Hellions.

victims of the bye week:
Piana - none
Irwin - RB James

Game of the Week
The Pimps
at
Sims Stereco
(2 - 1)
(1 - 2)
series history: Pimps lead 5-3
last meeting: Week 8 , 2000
SIMS 54, at Pimps 45

The Pimps, now winners of two straight, visit the division rival Stereco, fresh off their big victory over Irwin. Kurt Warner was the hero of that game, throwing for 19 points, but a repeat performance may be difficult against The Pimps constricting Packer defense. In three games this season, The Pimps have allowed only 29 points against. Sims has managed to score at least 23 in each of their games, so something's going to have to give.

On offense, The Pimps will be challenged by injuries to Mark Brunell and Ricky Watters. They will have to rely on a strengthening receiving corps to keep up with Sims' more potent offense. Warner and Co. will have to pick up the pace to stay in front of that Packer defense and hope their own defensive unit will make a strong showing. A big divisional win will keep the momentum going for one of these two teams. With a series history noted for exciting games, this is sure to be one to watch.

victims of the bye week:
Pimps - none
Sims - none
