Week 2 Previews

Anderson Brewmeisters
at
The Pimps
(0 - 1)
(0 - 1)
series history: Anderson leads 4-3
last meeting: Week 12, 2000
Pimps 37, at ANDERSON 58

The Anderson Brewmeisters visit The Pimps in a battle of winless teams. Last week, the Brewmeisters were outgunned by the Abstract Machines while The Pimps were held to their lowest point total in almost two years by the Naughty Figs.

Both teams come into the game with offensive concerns. Anderson lost a key component last week to injury as Ed McCaffery broke his leg and is done for the year. Further complicating the lineup, first overall pick LaDainian Tomlinson is looking to grab some playing time from Fred Taylor and Duce Staley. Across the field, The Pimps will be without the services of Jerome Bettis due to a bye, and quarterback Jeff George is coming off a dismal (to say the least) -5 performance in Week 1. Will he get the call again, or will draftee Rob Johnson see some action? Regardless, The Pimps will have to find a way to put more points on the board to compete with the high-octane Brewmeisters.

victims of the bye week:
Anderson - none
Pimps - RB Bettis, DEF Pittsburgh

Piana Raze
at
Sims Stereco
(1 - 0)
(0 - 1)

series history: Piana leads 4-1
last meeting: Week 9, 2000
Sims 29, at PIANA 30

Last season, the Piana Raze downed the Sims Stereco at En Fuego Field 30-29 in a game ultimately decided by home field advantage. This year, however, it is the Raze who are travel-bound as they visit the scorned Stereco, further spurned by last week's come from behind stunner at the hands of Jody. The Raze are coming of a tough divisional road win and are looking to head home 2-0.

Despite solid efforts last week, both teams will be missing key role-players as a result of the bye. Sims will have to go without Ricky Williams and Albert Connell, who combined for 16 points last week, while the Raze will have to learn to play without their New Orleans defense. Despite these absentees, there's potential for many offense fireworks, particularly at the quarterback position where Piana's Brian Griese will try to out-throw Sims' Kurt Warner.

victims of the bye week:
Piana - DEF New Orleans, REC Jackson
Sims - RB Williams, QB Brooks, REC Connell

Abstract Machines
at
Thomas' Bock Boys
(1 - 0)
(0 - 1)
series history: tied 1-1
last meeting: Week 9, 2000
MACHINES 56, at Thomas 36

Following last week's beating at the hands of the Hellions, Thomas' Bock Boys find themselves under .500 for only the second week in the franchise's young history. The Boys make their 2001 home debut this week against the division rival Abstract Machines, who are coming off an impressive road win at Anderson.

Thomas' offense is still reeling at the loss of Robert Smith and Jamal Lewis, and their current backfield is a hodgepodge of second-tier talent. The Machines have no such problem, fielding superstar Marshall Faulk and the capable Corey Dillon. Despite this lopsided comparison at running back, the Bock Boys have one of the deepest receiving corps in the league, as well as the dangerous Daunte Culpepper heading the offense. Yet will they be enough to get past Faulk, Elvis Grbac, and Marvin Harrison?

victims of the bye week:
Machines - QB Johnson
Thomas - REC Johnson

Irwin Hellions
at
P.W.O.P.
(1 - 0)
(0 - 1)
series history: Irwin leads 7-1
last meeting: Week 6, 2000
IRWIN 22, at Players 17

The Irwin Hellions proved last week that they were ready and able to defend their world title by pummeling the Bock Boys. Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$ showed a renewed fighting spirit but came up short against the Raze. Now, they host these Hellions, a team P.W.O.P. has beaten only once in eight lifetime meetings.

Yet this may be as good an opportunity as any for nthe Profiteer$; Ahman Green revived the ground game, and the Jeff Garcia-to-Randy Moss connection is always a viable threat. Moreover, they will not have to face the Hellions' Tampa Bay defense, who are off with a bye. Yet as puinishing as that defense is, the Hellions' offense is certainly not the team's second fiddle with the likes of Donovan McNabb, Edgerrin James, and Curtis Martin lighting up the scoreboard.

victims of the bye week:
Irwin - RB Dunn, DEF Tampa Bay
P.W.O.P. - none

Game of the Week
Jody's C.W.O.T.
at
Naughty Figs
(1 - 0)
(1 - 0)
series history: tied 1-1
last meeting: Week 5, 2000
B.Y.O.B. 18, at JODY 21

Jody's Colossal Waste of Time visits the Naughty Figs in the only Week 2 matchup featuring undefeated teams. Both clubs posted big division wins last week as the Figs handcuffed The Pimps while the C.W.O.T. rallied pass the Stereco. Being atop the East is nothing new for Jody, but this is virgin territory for the Figs; a win over the C.W.O.T. would place the Naughty Figs all alone atop the division for the first time in franchise history.

The Figs are led by the likes of Rich Gannon, Lamar Smith, and Cris Carter, while Jody counters with Kerry Collins, Eddie George, and Tim Brown. Yet this is a game likely to be left in the hands of two defensive powers: Jody's Miami squad has been legendary in big games, and the Figs' Baltimore unit was one of the most sought-after during the offseason. Either squad can suffocate an opponent's offense and practically claim a victory on its own.

This same week last year, the Figs scored their first-ever home victory by stunning the C.W.O.T. 29-27. Will home field advantage once again be enough for the Naughty Figs to post a win against the defending division champs?

victims of the bye week:
Jody - REC Horn, K Gramatica
Figs - none
